Google Managing Change when Moving to Google Cloud: Free Course

Explore the people side of cloud adoption with Google’s free change management course, covering readiness, maturity and common change paths.

Cloud Change Management by Google, illustrated with planning milestones, a readiness card and a cloud.

A cloud transition changes more than where an organisation runs its software. It can change responsibilities, routines and the questions people need to ask before they feel ready to work differently. Google’s Managing Change when Moving to Google Cloud focuses on that human side of adoption.

This free instructional course is designed for people managers. It introduces a way to think about readiness alongside the technical migration, helping you approach team concerns with more structure. If you support a department, lead a project team or communicate organisational change, its management perspective offers a useful starting point.

Make the human side of migration visible

The curriculum moves from the reasons for cloud adoption to the challenges of change. It then introduces the maturity journey, people-focused initiatives, common change paths and Google Cloud’s methodology. This gives the course a clear management focus: understanding the transition people are being asked to make.

As you watch, keep two questions separate in your notes: what will change in the technology, and what will change in someone’s daily work? A migration announcement can describe the first question clearly while leaving the second unanswered. Reading your notes from a team member’s perspective can expose that gap before it becomes a confusing conversation.

Turn a framework into better questions

For optional independent reflection, choose a fictional team preparing to move one familiar workflow to the cloud. Write a short stakeholder map: who uses the workflow, who supports it and who needs to understand the change? Give each group one concern and one question you would ask before planning support.

For example, a team member might need clarity about a changed routine, while a manager needs clarity about ownership. Treat those as questions to investigate, not conclusions about real colleagues. Avoid using confidential employee information or making assumptions about someone’s willingness to adapt.

Return to the map after the maturity and change-path lessons. Note which questions you can now express more precisely and which still need input from the people involved. This is an optional study exercise, not a Google assessment or a tested change plan.

Who this course suits

The course is most relevant to people managers and professionals supporting a cloud adoption programme. It can also give project coordinators and change communicators a shared vocabulary for discussing the people affected by a transition.

Choose it for an introduction to the management perspective. For hands-on deployment or migration engineering, look for separate technical training. Google does not publish a level on the reviewed course page; the Beginner label here is an editorial guide to this introductory audience and syllabus.
