Migrating to Google Cloud: Free Fundamentals Course Instruction

Understand Google’s Assess, Plan, Deploy and Optimize migration framework, with free instructional videos and separate Migration Center lab access.

WikiFree Cloud Migration course cover with navy servers connected to a cream cloud by a coral route and planning tiles.

A cloud migration is easier to discuss when the team shares a clear view of the stages involved. Migrating to Google Cloud: Fundamentals introduces a four-phase framework—Assess, Plan, Deploy and Optimize—and explains how migration tools fit around those phases.

Google’s Beginner course is a useful orientation for learners considering a migration project or joining a team that already has one underway. Its free instruction develops a planning vocabulary rather than giving a ready-made migration design for your organization. A separate Migration Center assessment lab adds practical activity; the framework is useful before moving a live workload.

What you’ll learn

  • Understand the advantages discussed in the course’s introduction to cloud migration.
  • Recognize the responsibilities associated with the Assess, Plan, Deploy and Optimize phases.
  • Identify where Migration Center and specialized migration tools support the process.
  • Relate migration preparation to the later work of deployment and optimization.
  • Use the quiz and course resources to consolidate the framework.

Skills you’ll gain

  • Migration framework literacy
  • Workload assessment planning
  • Cloud transition vocabulary
  • Migration-tool awareness
  • Phased decision-making

Use the four phases as a working map

The core sequence is deliberately straightforward: an introduction followed by one lesson for each migration phase, then a quiz, conclusion and resources. That structure makes the course suitable for establishing shared terminology. It helps distinguish investigating a workload from deciding how to move it, carrying out the move and improving its operation afterwards.

Those distinctions matter when a project contains uncertainty. An assessment question should not be mistaken for a settled deployment decision, and finishing a move does not automatically finish the optimization work. The course gives you a way to organize these conversations; it does not imply that every workload follows exactly the same technical path.

Build a small, useful preparation document

For an optional learning exercise, choose a fictional application and write one page about it. Note who uses it, what information it stores, the services it depends on and which questions remain unanswered. Place each question under the migration phase where you think it belongs. You can do this without a cloud account or access to an organization’s confidential systems.

After studying the lessons, revise that page. The aim is to improve the quality of your questions, not to create a production migration plan from a short course. For real workloads, architecture, security, cost and operational responsibilities need appropriate specialist review. Revising the page helps turn unfamiliar terminology into concrete project questions.

A foundation for choosing deeper training

If you are new to cloud projects, this course helps you decide which topic to investigate next: assessment, tooling, deployment or ongoing operation. Existing administrators can use it to compare a familiar migration process with Google’s framework. That foundation is a way to prepare for deeper planning, particularly where workload compatibility and operational requirements need closer investigation.

Free learning and practical access

Google advertises the course’s instruction as free, with a free Google Skills account required to access its lessons and quiz. The Introduction to Migration Center Servers Assessments lab is separate. Practical cloud resources, migration operations and product access can have their own requirements or costs; they are not needed to study the four-phase instructional framework.

Any provider badge depends on its required activities and access conditions. A free badge, professional certification or academic credit is not promised.

Frequently asked questions

What are the four migration phases taught here?

The course organizes its core instruction around Assess, Plan, Deploy and Optimize. It introduces the tasks and tool context around that framework rather than supplying a custom migration design for a learner’s production systems.

Do I have to migrate a server to take the free instruction?

No. The free learning route covers the lessons, quiz and course resources with a free Google Skills account. The Migration Center assessment lab and any real migration work are separate practical activities.

Is a free migration qualification included?

A free badge for following instruction alone is not guaranteed. Any recognition depends on Google’s completion rules; no professional qualification or academic credit is promised.
