About this course
An average alone rarely explains a dataset. My Network Training’s statistics foundation course combines measures of center with variation, distribution shape and the distinction between a sample and the wider population. It is intended to give business and research beginners a vocabulary for making sense of numerical information.
The eight-lesson sequence starts with the purpose of statistics, then covers mean, median and mode, range and standard deviation, and normality, skewness and kurtosis. It also separates descriptive from inferential work, examines populations and samples, and introduces variables and levels of measurement before a short overview of statistical tests.

Skills you’ll gain
- Compare mean, median and mode as summaries of the center of data.
- Recognize the role of range and standard deviation in describing spread.
- Discuss distribution shape using normality, skewness and kurtosis.
- Differentiate descriptive summaries from inferential questions.
- Connect populations, samples and measurement levels with analytical choices.
The description includes Excel demonstrations and exercises. The final lesson introduces methods such as chi-square, Spearman correlation and t-tests, but a single introductory lesson is not equivalent to a full applied course in each method. The emphasis is on understanding the foundations before progressing to deeper analysis.
No previous statistics study is required. Excel is useful for following the demonstrations in the same interface, but an Excel license is separate from free course viewing. For no-cost practice with your own data, LibreOffice Calc offers descriptive statistics tools; its menus and workflow differ from Excel, so it is an alternative practice environment rather than an exact replacement for every demonstration. The platform lists 108 minutes of material.

Frequently asked questions
Is the course suitable for a complete statistics beginner?
Yes. The published requirements do not assume previous statistics knowledge. Familiarity with basic arithmetic will help with the examples.
Must I buy Excel to watch the lessons?
No. Viewing the course and obtaining software are separate. Excel is relevant to following its demonstrations, while Calc can support independent descriptive-statistics practice.
Does the final lesson make me proficient in every test it names?
No. It introduces tests within a foundation course; applying them responsibly requires attention to assumptions and further practice.
