What you’ll learn

  • Understand how PowerShell commands and pipelines can work together to perform an administrative task.
  • Develop scripts with clearer inputs, control flow and error-handling behaviour.
  • Use the remoting and debugging lessons to investigate how a script behaves in its intended environment.
  • Relate objects, configuration, automation and secrets-management concepts to a maintainable workflow.

Skills you’ll gain

  • PowerShell pipelines
  • Script development
  • Error handling
  • PowerShell remoting
  • Debugging
  • Object-based automation

Course Overview

The sequence begins with PowerShell fundamentals and combining commands, then moves into remote management and a development environment. Scripting lessons introduce more demanding work, supported by dedicated material on error handling and debugging. Later videos address data and objects, Desired State Configuration, automation, PowerShell 7 and secrets-management concepts. The publisher specifies a recommended viewing order, which the course follows. Pay attention to what a command receives and returns: PowerShell’s object-based workflow is easier to reason about when you inspect the data at each stage.

How to study the course

  • Start with fundamentals and connecting commands. Inspect the output before adding another step to a pipeline, and use a harmless practice task.
  • Work through the scripting and debugging sections together. Record what should happen on an expected input and what should happen when an input fails.
  • Use the later configuration and automation material to think beyond a single successful run. Note version and environment differences before adapting an example.

Use the searchable classroom lesson list to revisit a specific explanation. Pause after a useful demonstration, reproduce a small example and explain the result in your own words. Keep a short note of what worked, what changed and what you still need to understand before moving on.

Who is this for?

This course is for IT administrators, cloud practitioners and developers who want more reliable command-line automation. It suits learners comfortable with basic computing who are ready to read, adapt and explain scripts.

Before you start

A suitable PowerShell environment and basic computer administration knowledge are helpful. Some demonstrations use older interfaces or version-specific features. Practise on disposable data and confirm compatibility before running a script elsewhere.

Put the lessons into practice

Create a script that reads a small file of invented records and produces a summary. Make its inputs explicit, inspect the objects flowing through it and add a clear response to a missing or invalid file. Use the debugging lessons to investigate one intentional fault. Run the script twice and compare the result. Keep the task harmless and local while learning. Finish with comments explaining the expected input, output, version assumptions and the checks another user should make before adapting it.

This optional activity is provided by WikiFree for independent practice. It is not a graded assignment from the instructor. Keep your working notes, check the result against the task you defined and return to the relevant lesson when an assumption or technique is unclear.

Certificate / Assessment

Watching the public videos and using WikiFree progress tracking does not award a certificate, exam voucher, academic credit or instructor assessment. The training is by John Savill; it is not a Microsoft certification exam or a guarantee of passing one.

Use your practice output to review what you can now explain and repeat independently. Completion tracking records your study progress; it does not replace an assessed qualification or professional experience.
