Get a free earned value management PDF explaining PV, EV, AC, CV, SV, CPI, SPI, EAC, ETC, VAC and TCPI through formulas and worked examples.

Project Monitoring & KPIs

Earned Value Management: The Essential Formula Handbook focuses on the calculations behind a structured project-performance review. This free English PDF starts with planned value, earned value and actual cost, then builds toward performance indices, forecasts and the efficiency required on the remaining work. The handwritten graph-paper design keeps the formulas, explanations and worked examples together on each learning page.

What you will find in this ebook

Read the current performance position

Start by separating the budgeted value of planned work, the budgeted value of completed work and the actual cost incurred. The handbook then explains cost variance, schedule variance, the cost performance index and the schedule performance index. The examples help you connect a numerical result to the question being asked rather than treating every indicator as an interchangeable measure of progress.

Choose a forecast that matches the assumption

Several pages examine estimate at completion under different conditions: future work proceeds at budget, current cost efficiency continues, cost and schedule performance both influence the projection, or remaining work is estimated from the activities themselves. Estimate to complete and variance at completion follow, showing how the forecast relates to the cost already recorded and the original budget.

Test the target for the remaining work

The handbook includes TCPI calculations against both budget at completion and an estimate at completion. A complete EVM review then brings the measures together, followed by a compact formula reference. The sequence makes it easier to distinguish a description of past performance from a forecast or a required future level of performance.

A practical way to use this handbook

Before using the handbook for a reporting cycle, align the scope, reporting date and progress-measurement method in your data. Work through the opening PV, EV and AC example, then calculate the variances and indices from the same inputs. Select an EAC approach only after stating the assumption for the remaining work. Finish by checking ETC, VAC and TCPI, and explain what changed since the previous review.

Frequently asked questions

Does a schedule variance directly tell me the delay in days?

Traditional earned value schedule variance is expressed in budget units, not days. Use it alongside the project schedule and critical path analysis when assessing an expected completion delay.

Is this ebook free to download?

Yes. Download the English PDF directly from WikiFree without creating an account. You can keep a copy and read it offline in a PDF reader.

What are the promotional pages in the PDF?

The PDF includes an advertisement for a project-management templates bundle and an advertisement for Coursera Plus. Their links are optional; you do not need to purchase either offer to use the handbook. The promotional links may generate a commission for WikiFree.
