If you already know those foundations, use the outline to identify concepts you need to revisit.
A cloud network should do more than connect resources: it needs clear boundaries, sensible access rules, and a way to reveal problems. Google’s Google Cloud Computing Foundations: Networking & Security in Google Cloud introduces those decisions in a beginner-oriented setting. It connects the vocabulary of networking with the tools used to manage and observe a cloud environment.
This is the third course in Google’s four-part Cloud Computing Foundations sequence. Its focus is the relationship between connectivity, protection, and day-to-day operations. If network diagrams currently look like a collection of unfamiliar acronyms, the course offers a structured route into the ideas behind them.

What you’ll learn
- Explain the purpose of Virtual Private Cloud networks and distinguish public from internal addressing.
- Understand how routes and firewall rules influence cloud connectivity.
- Explore multiple-network environments, hybrid connectivity, and load balancing.
- Recognize how network protection relates to application delivery.
- Connect infrastructure as code and Terraform with repeatable environment management.
- Identify the role of monitoring and observability in operating cloud resources.
Skills you’ll gain
- Cloud networking fundamentals
- VPC concepts
- Access-control reasoning
- Load balancing concepts
- Infrastructure as code literacy
- Monitoring awareness
Connectivity, security, and visibility
The networking section introduces addressing and traffic controls before moving into wider connectivity options. That progression encourages you to ask useful questions: which resources need to communicate, which connections should be restricted, and how requests reach an application. The listed practical activities include working with multiple networks, controlling access, and configuring an application load balancer with Cloud Armor.
The management section shifts attention to repeatability and observation. Infrastructure as code, Terraform, and Google Cloud Observability appear in the curriculum alongside monitoring practice. Together, these topics connect the initial design of an environment with the work involved in understanding and maintaining it after setup.
Build a network diagram you can explain
To make the material more useful, sketch a small fictional application with a public entry point, an application component, and a data component. Draw only the connections the application needs. For each line, write its purpose in plain English before attaching a product name or technical setting.
As you reach the security topics, revisit the diagram and ask which connection should be allowed and which should remain restricted. Then add an observation question: what would you want to know if that connection stopped working? This exercise develops your reasoning without requiring a live cloud deployment or suggesting that a study diagram is a production security design.
Where this fits in your learning journey
The provider places this course after its Cloud Computing Fundamentals and Infrastructure courses, and before the final Data, ML, and AI course. Following that order can help you connect networks to the resources they support. If you already know those foundations, use the outline to identify concepts you need to revisit.
It is a suitable subject to explore when preparing for further cloud study or trying to communicate more clearly with infrastructure colleagues. It does not turn a beginner into a security auditor, and it should not be used as a checklist for securing a real organization without additional expertise.
Access and completion expectations
All 20 teaching videos and the course reading document are available free with a Google Skills learner account. No paid subscription, payment card, or trial is needed for this study route. The four hosted lab exercises have separate access conditions and can require credits or a subscription. You can study the networking and operations lessons without launching those environments.
No free completion badge or certificate is promised in this listing. Watching lessons does not automatically satisfy every completion requirement, and the wider Cloud Computing Foundations certificate has its own access conditions.
