About this course
A founder’s history can become a list of achievements unless it explains why the work began and what made the commitment meaningful. This free course focuses on building that origin narrative and adapting it to several communication formats.
Aaron C. Leaman teaches a four-stage framework: Spark, Insight, Struggle and Commitment. Learners develop a longer private draft before extracting a spoken opening, a short written biography and a one-line version.

Skills you’ll gain
- Identify the turning points behind a business origin story
- Use Spark, Insight, Struggle and Commitment to structure a draft
- Distinguish lived history from an early-stage founder’s present conviction
- Extract short versions from one consistent source narrative
- Recognize a disguised CV or invented turning point
- Adapt the story without fabricating events
The first section explains the instructor’s case for storytelling, examines common failure symptoms and demonstrates a before-and-after narrative. Research and neuroscience are discussed in the lessons, but this article does not independently validate every research or business-performance claim.
The building section introduces the framework and two tracks for established founders and people just starting. Its central exercise uses a worksheet and a fictional example to develop a private version. Subsequent lessons extract the 90-second telling, 200-word biography and one-line summary.
A closing review considers failure modes and use in pitches, About pages, hiring and press. The course is Part 1 of a broader series and builds the origin story only; a complete pitch deck, fundraising strategy, product story and vision story remain separate work.
The public syllabus lists 99 minutes across 16 lectures, plus guided writing. No prior writing experience is requested. A phone or computer that records audio and a notebook or document editor are sufficient for the baseline and drafts. AI adaptation is discussed, but a paid AI subscription is not necessary to write the story.
Frequently asked questions
Does it build the whole pitch deck?
No. It creates an origin narrative that can support a pitch; deck design, financial models and fundraising strategy are separate.
Is it useful before launching a business?
The instructor teaches an early-stage track based on current belief and risk, without inventing a history.
Do I need to pay for an AI tool?
No. The principal tasks are recording, reflection and writing.
