About this course
A polished AI response can still miss the point. Anthropic’s AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations introduces a way to make better decisions throughout an AI-assisted task: choosing what to delegate, explaining what you need, reviewing the result and taking responsibility for its use.
Developed with educators Rick Dakan and Joseph Feller, the course is a starting point for human–AI collaboration. Our assessment: it fits learners who already have tasks they want help with but need a clearer way to judge the assistance they receive. It is especially relevant before collecting advanced prompts or automating a workflow.

What you’ll learn
The 4D framework connects four decisions that belong together. Clear instructions help, but so does knowing which tasks to keep under human control and how to recognise an unreliable answer.
The sequence also introduces generative AI’s limitations and prompting techniques, then brings instruction and evaluation together in an iterative process. The final module includes a quiz.
Skills you’ll gain
- AI literacy
- Task delegation
- Prompt design
- Output evaluation
- Responsible AI use
- Human–AI collaboration
Anthropic’s companion course guidance uses Claude in examples but allows other language models. A free chatbot account is sufficient for its practice activities; a paid AI subscription is not required. Follow the activities within the course before deciding whether you need a more advanced tool.
For your study plan, we recommend taking this before a specialist automation or AI development course. Its role is to improve the decisions around AI use. Learners looking for coding instruction should choose a separate technical course after this foundation.
