What you need

Familiarity with basic project planning. Use supplied synthetic figures; no organizational reporting access is required.

The selected public provider lessons are free to view. The original case can be completed with paper, a text editor or freely available local tools. Paid exams, certificates, subscriptions and optional provider software are not required for this project.

Completing this WikiFree path does not award a provider certificate. Any provider assessment, account requirement or credential must be checked separately on its official page.

Three readiness questions

Is delivering software itself a benefit?

It is an output; value depends on its use and effects.

Are fewer no-shows enough without a denominator?

No. Compare rates as well as counts.

Does before-and-after data prove the program caused the change?

No. Other explanations must be considered.

Use a workable pace

At 5 hours per week, allow about 2 weeks. Start with Stage 1, continue in order and reserve 2h for the capstone. If a gate fails, use its repair step before advancing. At another weekly budget, divide 484 estimated minutes by your available weekly minutes and round up.

Keep a small evidence folder. A checked box means you reviewed your output; it is not a certificate or proof that a provider lesson was watched.

The working case

Compare the denominators

The fictional Birch Library launches online room booking, staff training and reminder messages as one improvement program. The sponsor wants fewer unfulfilled bookings. A baseline month contains 200 bookings and 40 no-shows. A later sample month has 240 bookings and 36 no-shows. Other conditions may have changed, so the numbers do not by themselves prove causation.

The five-stage workshop

01

Map the strategic intent

Video 19m · reading budget 0m · original practice about 55m.

A program connects coordinated work to a strategic purpose. Start with the service problem and explain how each project contributes. Avoid listing every possible benefit: identify the change the sponsor actually needs. A useful map includes assumptions between steps so a delivered feature is not mistaken for a guaranteed result.

Watch these selected lessons

Do the work

Map the three outputs to staff adoption, booking behavior and service value.

Save this output

Output-to-benefit map

Pass the review gate

Every claimed benefit has a plausible intermediate behavior and an explicit assumption.

If you need another attempt

Insert the missing adoption step when a line jumps directly from software delivery to value.

02

Define benefit measures

Video 22m · reading budget 0m · original practice about 1h 15m.

A benefit measure needs a definition, baseline, target, period, data source and accountable owner. Measures should be comparable over time. No-show count can rise while the rate improves when booking volume grows, so retain both. The practice target is a planning assumption, not a prediction or an externally mandated benchmark.

Watch these selected lessons

Do the work

Create a register for no-show rate, staff usage and booking completion. Mark unavailable measures as not yet observed.

Save this output

Benefits register

Pass the review gate

The no-show rate uses no-shows divided by bookings, and missing adoption data are not invented.

If you need another attempt

Write the denominator and observation window beside every percentage.

03

Interpret the supplied evidence

Video 0m · reading budget 0m · original practice about 1h 5m.

Separate arithmetic from interpretation. The rate changed from 20% to 15%, a reduction of 5 percentage points and 25% relative to the baseline rate. These are different descriptions of the same comparison. A causal claim requires stronger evidence about timing, exposure, comparison conditions and other influences than two monthly observations provide.

Original application stage. Use your preceding outputs and the supplied case; there is no additional required provider lesson.

Do the work

Calculate both rates and both change measures, then list three alternative explanations.

Save this output

Measurement note with limits

Pass the review gate

Calculations show 20%,15%,−5 percentage points and 25% relative reduction without a causal claim.

If you need another attempt

Check whether you subtracted percentages or divided the change by the baseline.

04

Assign continuing ownership

Video 3m · reading budget 0m · original practice about 55m.

Project teams can hand over outputs before benefits mature. A governance plan names who monitors the outcome, resolves data problems and decides whether to continue, adapt or stop an intervention. Avoid a register that becomes ownerless at project closure. Define review dates and the evidence needed for each decision.

Do the work

Assign benefit owners, data stewards and review dates after delivery. Add an escalation for missing usage data.

Benefits governance plan

Pass the review gate

Every measure has an owner after project closure and a specific next review.

If you need another attempt

Do not assign every ongoing benefit to a temporary project manager by default.

05

Test the benefit hypothesis

Video 0m · reading budget 0m · original practice about 1h 10m.

A useful benefits review can lead to a changed decision. If the booking system is rarely used, adding more reminder features may not address the real bottleneck. Identify which assumption failed and what modest evidence-gathering step would discriminate between explanations. Keep any proposed experiment separate from work already performed.

Original application stage. Use your preceding outputs and the supplied case; there is no additional required provider lesson.

Do the work

Write a review memo for a scenario where only 30% of staff use the new workflow. Propose a bounded next check.

Save this output

Benefits review and adaptation decision

Pass the review gate

The recommendation addresses adoption evidence and labels the next check as proposed.

If you need another attempt

Replace a generic continue the program statement with a condition that could change the decision.

Make the result inspectable

Your final project

Submit the map, benefits register, calculations, governance plan and adoption review. Add one benefit that cannot yet be measured and state the data needed before reporting it.

The ZIP includes synthetic input data, a project workbook, worked reference, evidence log, scoring rubric and case-specific materials. Code projects include source and clearly stated local execution requirements.

Use one consistent rubric

Criterion Maximum Evidence
Evidence and correctness 30 Calculations, source use and results match the supplied case; limitations are honest.
Required artifacts 30 All five stage outputs and the capstone handoff are present and inspectable.
Reasoning and decisions 20 Choices, assumptions, alternatives and the case-specific critical condition are explained.
Reproducibility 10 A reviewer can follow the stated steps and distinguish expected from observed results.
Clear communication 10 Labels, units, structure and evidence references make the work easy to review.

Score at least 80/100, supply every required artifact, and satisfy the path-specific critical condition. Rework missing evidence before marking complete.

The critical condition

Outputs are not reported as realized benefits, and before-and-after comparisons are not presented as causal proof.

Compare with a worked reference

40/200=20% and 36/240=15%. The rate fell 5 percentage points, or 25% relative to 20%. A defensible statement is that the later sample has a lower no-show rate; it is not that the program has proven a 25% causal improvement.

Know the boundary

This is benefits planning and interpretation, not a complete program-management certification or an impact evaluation.

Questions before you finish

Do I need to finish every source course?

No. This path names selected lessons or reading sections. Complete the full provider course only if it supports your wider goal. The path does not claim equivalence to that course.

How do I know when to advance?

Use the output and review gate in each stage. If evidence is missing or a result conflicts with the case, follow the repair step and retry before advancing.

Can I do the project without paid software?

The selected public provider lessons are free to view. The original case can be completed with paper, a text editor or freely available local tools. Paid exams, certificates, subscriptions and optional provider software are not required for this project.

What does my checklist prove?

It records your own review in this browser only. It does not verify viewing, skill, a provider credential or a real-world deployment.

What if a lesson or tool changes?

Use the linked course and provider page to inspect current availability. Record the change and revisit the relevant assignment; do not invent a replacement lesson or claim an unavailable activity was completed.
