About this course

A store is easier to understand when its catalogue, content and operational records have clear roles. Jonny Casquinha and Edi Bouazza’s beginner Shopify course introduces those parts of the administration interface, from product records and collections to orders, files and notifications. It is the first level in the source’s course series.

The free English course lists 12 lectures in one section and approximately 126 minutes. Its public page was last updated in July 2019. That makes it useful as a historical introductory walkthrough, with current interface steps checked separately. It does not establish a complete current launch checklist, a developer qualification or access to the rest of the series.

What you’ll learn

Recognize how a Shopify store’s catalogue, information pages and administration fit together. The curriculum covers products, collections, pages, blog posts, navigation, customers, orders, themes, files and notification templates. Use the walkthrough to understand the purpose of those areas before making live changes, without assuming every older screen matches the current platform.

Skills you’ll gain

  • Distinguish individual products from collections.
  • Plan information pages and blog content.
  • Organise navigation around a visitor’s needs.
  • Recognize customer and order administration tasks.
  • Identify the role of themes and uploaded files.
  • Review notification content for clarity and accuracy.

Understand the catalogue before filling it

Merchant signup and developer signup appear as separate lessons. They introduce different contexts for working with the platform. The older developer lesson also mentions partner rewards, but the listing does not establish current programme eligibility, account conditions or compensation. Do not treat watching that lesson as an entitlement to earnings or a particular type of store account.

Products and collections then receive dedicated attention. A product record describes an item, while collections help organise a catalogue. For independent study, sketch a fictional store with a small group of items and explain why each belongs in a particular collection. This is a suggested exercise rather than a verified course assignment.

Connect content with navigation

The pages, blogs and navigation lessons address how visitors find information. A menu needs to reflect the content that actually exists and the questions a visitor is likely to ask. A product category, an informational page and a blog post serve different purposes, even when they concern the same subject.

Before changing a real store, map the proposed structure on paper and check that each label has a clear destination. That makes it easier to notice duplicate categories or missing information. The course introduces editing these areas, but does not establish an independently tested accessibility, search-optimisation or conversion review of a finished site.

Treat operational records with care

Customer and order lessons bring the walkthrough into store operations. The public outline includes editing customer profiles and creating manual orders. Those tasks should be based on genuine business records and appropriate permission. Fictional study data belongs in an appropriate test environment, and should not become a real order, customer message or misleading sales record.

Themes, files and notification templates complete the listed scope. Review text, images and messages before using them with customers. A template may need current business information, and an uploaded asset still needs suitable usage rights. The older examples do not establish that every custom theme, email or SMS option remains available under the same conditions today.

Separate the course from the store subscription

Free viewing of the course is separate from using Shopify. Current Shopify guidance says selling requires choosing a paid plan, while trial conditions can vary and a store without a chosen plan is paused after the trial. Apps can also have separate charges. No permanent free production-store plan or paid theme entitlement is established by this course.

A notebook is enough to study the structure without beginning a software trial. Finish with a small catalogue map, a page-and-menu outline and questions about order handling and notifications. If you later practise in the platform, check current account rules, costs and controls first. The course offers an introductory tour, without promising a live store, revenue or professional certification.
